My name is Tenoch Peña. I have lived my whole life in El Paso, but I have travelled a bit around the us and Mexico. I am a multisport athlete where | have excelled in such as making it to regionals, winning weekly on the meets, even placing top 3 amongst all El Paso track athletes in high jump and top 10 for hurdles, also being recognize in the El Paso Times for winning 5 gold medals for my senior district track meet. I have done Track for 3 years and Swum for 4 years. I have been All-District several times and even the Swim team captain. I've been actively involved in both swimming and track & field, earning All-District honors multiple times in both sports. I've contributed to three district championships in swim and helped my track team win three district titles, all of them being back-to-back. This year, we even won the Area meet for Track. Also I am the current 4 time 4a district meet record holder for swim and have accumulated 60 medals which more than half are gold. Some stuff that motivates me is my coaches and parents. There always there for me, whether it's for my sports, schools, or other stuff.

Seeing them being proud of me is a feeling that cannot be replaced.

All my hard work has been because of them. They push me to be better, and I'm forever thankful to them. After high school, | will use my work ethic to help me achieve even more. I plan to attend Doña Ana Community College, where I will be going to get my line worker certificate before applying to El Paso Electric. High school has taught me the importance of hard work, staying strong through challenges, and leaning on the people who support me. I'm thankful for everything l've learned and excited for what comes next.

Hello, my name is Matthew Cruz.

I am a proud and humble recipient of three of the scholarships the Austin Alumni Association awarded. I was awarded the Daniel Jason Morales, RN Memorial Scholarship, the Katherine Victoria Aguilar Memorial Scholarship, and the Toni Hurt Memorial Scholarship.

I was born and raised in the beautiful city of El Paso along with my two younger siblings. Growing up with a single mother was difficult but she did the absolute best of hiding it until we were old enough to understand. I am incredibly grateful to my mom for putting us first and always supporting us through all our journeys in life. At an early age I started playing football, very quickly it became my identity. Continuing to play through middle school and high school, I met many people. Football was not just a sport but an extension of family. Here I met lifelong friends and the greatest mentors in life. While in this sport I earned multiple achievements, back-to-back all-district Honorable mentions and  also Offensive Lineman of The Year. While also maintaining a GPA of 3.72. Football has opened up so many doors in my life and allowed me to go places that I would’ve never seen before. It also is allowing me to go to a university where I am wanted. I earned this scholarship from the Greater El Paso Football All-Star Showcase, where me and many others competed against each other while college coaches watched us up close. I plan to study health Science to one day be able to become a Registered Nurse and come back to El Paso to help my community.

Joselyn Meza
Class of '64, '65, '66 Scholarship
$1400

Hello, my name is Joselyn Meza and I’m from El Paso, Texas, and I’m currently getting ready to start a new chapter in my life as I continue my education at UTEP, where I’ll be studying Business with a focus in Finance.

I graduated in the top 10% of my senior class and was honored with several achievements I’m really proud of. That includes earning a student trainer scholarship, being named the All Austin Girl, and becoming both a licensed nail tech and a certified Level 2 Security Officer. But beyond the titles and certificates, my senior year taught me more than any classroom ever could.

After my mom passed away, I stepped into the role of guardian for my siblings and became the head of our household. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s shaped me into someone who’s strong, responsible, and focused on building a future, not just for myself, but for the people who count and depend on me.

When I’m not studying or taking care of business, I love playing basketball, reading, writing, or just go on a walk while I listen to music. — it’s how I stay grounded and express myself.

This is only the beginning, and I’m excited to see where my hard work, heart, and a little hustle take me next.

My name is Yaelena Lopez, and I am a proud member of the Austin Class of 2025. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, a city that I deeply love and plan to continue calling home as I pursue my academic goals. I am excited to attend the University of Texas at El Paso, where I will be studying criminal justice, a field I am passionate about because of my desire to make a positive impact in my community. I am the youngest of three siblings and am proud to be the last to graduate in my family. Growing up, I attended Hillside Elementary and MacArthur Middle School, where I developed a love for learning and a strong sense of community. During my time at Austin High School, I was part of the SDOA academy, which helped me develop discipline and leadership skills that I will carry into my future. One of the most transformative experiences I had was being a member of the AcaDec team. Through this activity, I learned the importance of teamwork and perseverance, realizing that working together and never giving up are key to success. Additionally, I served as the school nurse's courtesy/helper, a role that truly opened my eyes to what it means to help others. Assisting the nurse and classmates taught me the value of compassion and the importance of community support. Overall, my high school journey has shaped me into a dedicated, compassionate individual eager to contribute to society. I look forward to continuing my education at UTEP and making a difference in the lives of others.
