Fabian Tejada
Jason Morales RN Memorial Scholarship
$1500

I'm Fabian Tejada, an 18 year old Pharmacy Technician, and now officially a 2024 Austin High School Alumni who is passionate about life, science, healthcare, helping others and learning. All of these passions have lead me into wanting to pursue the career of healthcare specifically my upcoming dream of becoming an ICU nurse. There's so many inspirations that come along with this dream of mine specifically my mom. I come from a Hispanic family who struggled through the lows of life, and pursued working at a young age which lead to dropping their education. I wanted to be the change in that family tradition and accomplish those big dreams many thought were impossible. I got the opportunity to study to become certified as a Pharmacy Technician all while also studying to earn my high school diploma. I'm not going to deny the fact that working up to this accomplishment was challenging and at times felt like impossible, yet these emotions didn't stop me. My mother has always taught me to be hardworking and earn each opportunity that's given to you, but most importantly always take advantage of what comes because you will never know if that opportunity will come back. Apart from this I was taught to be humble, kindness and responsibility therefore consider myself lucky to have learnt this and grateful as well. Nursing is a huge dream to accomplish solely because I want patients to have that motivation to always give it their hardest in life and take advantage of those second chances given by life as well as see the beauty of it. My dream is to be an impact to not only patients but also to the families, the friends that colleagues who all share pain and needs of support while in those moments of vulnerability. I'm Fabian Tejada a future ICU Nurse with dreams of helping patients to have that motivation to always give it their hardest in life and take advantage of those second chances given by life as well as see the beauty of it. My dream is to be an impact to not only patients but also to the families, the friends that colleagues who all share pain and needs of support while in those moments of vulnerability. I'm Fabian Tejada a future ICU Nurse with dreams of helping people realize that if I could do it, so could them.

Andruw Tellez
Class of 1973 Scholarship
$1500

My name is Andruw Tellez. My parents are Daniel and Maria Tellez and I have an older sister Alyssa Tellez. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and I will be planning to stay in El Paso to further my academic career and attend the University of Texas at El Paso.
Growing up in El Paso I attended Aoy Elementary and Wiggs Middle School which my mother both worked at the time that I attended those schools and later I would attend Austin High School where my father worked at and graduated from. I began playing sports at the age of 6, starting with football which I would continue to play in middle school and high school. It was also in middle school where I began running track & field which I would also continue to do in high school even winning 2 varsity boys district championships.
I come from a Mexican household which taught me to adapt to the Mexican culture that El Paso is well known for such as the food, music, traditions, and even a little bit of the language. Some of my favorite Mexican dishes growing up were tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tamales, pozole, tortas, and carne asada. Living in El Paso, I would constantly hear Mexican music being played everywhere I would go, and sooner or later I would start to take a liking to it. Some favorite Mexican artists I like to listen to are Los Tigres de Norte, Vicente Fernandez, Luis Miguel, Peso Pluma, and Selena. Even though I may not be able to speak a lot of Spanish I have always heard it a lot around my house growing up, at family gatherings, and in everyday life. This has inspired me to learn more and more Spanish to be able to communicate with my family members and possibly to meet new people as well.

My name is Mia Karely Pacheco. A little about myself is that I’m a Hispanic female, whose currently 18, I have lived in El Paso since I was 5, and the central community is dearly to my heart. As of right now my favorite hobbies are playing the violin and viola and having a night stroll around Austin high school with my mom and sister. I have 4 sibling’s; 2 older brothers, an older sister and a younger sister. My mother is a single mom and has done her absolute best to raise us. Although I grow in hardship and in need, my mom always gave us what we needed and those humbling experiences that were giving to me, have made me into the person I am today. Since I know what struggling feels like, its driving me to have big dreams and ambition to give my family a better standard of living and also give my future kids the life I would have like to have. Since I have always enjoyed math and seeing how the world works, my current goal is to become an engineer, not only an engineer, but a head of engineering. As well as I want to become a person people are able to look up on and depend on and be the true leader, which I know I can be and become. Even though as of right now I’m not where I want to be as a person since I spent most of my high school years as a shy and just overall in the background person, as I move on to my college life I know I’ll give it my best to become an outstanding and exceptional individual.

Vivian Barragan
Javier Delgado
Memorial Scholarship
$1500

Hello, I am Vivian Alondra Barragan. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. My family and I have been all over El Paso, from the west to the east. I have had the chance to know many places across the city and to belong to many communities growing up. Growing up, I was usually attentive to my classes and how my grades were doing because my mom always instilled the importance of education to me from an early age. My mom also always encouraged me when it came to my passion for drawing, as she always supported me through verbal encouragement and supporting me with materials. My mom really influenced me, my passions, and what I want to do in the future. My career path so far has been becoming a teacher in the field of art. My main inspiration to becoming a teacher is my own art teachers I have had throughout my life, more specifically my high school art teacher. With him, I really began to appreciate the arts as their own thing and gained respect for those who teach it to the future generations. Besides loving art and producing it, it would be an honor to be able to teach the next generation of artists. My mission once I become an art teacher is to show the importance of the arts to those that are interested in them, but also in those that may not necessarily be interested in it and could have potential for it.

Paola Contreras
Katherine Victoria Aguilar
Memorial Scholarship
$1000

My name is Paola Contreras and I am a proud recipient of one of the scholarships for excellence at Austin High School. I was born and raised here in El Paso with my two sisters all my life. My first language was Spanish and I only began to learn English once I entered Elementary school. I was still very young and did not find it too difficult to learn both languages at the same time. As I went into middle school I was faced with a new set of challenges, one of them being how hard it was for me to understand some of the material. Not only that, but as a 12 year old who had just started sports and had to balance school and hobbies for the first time it was hard and I constantly struggled. However, by the time I got to high school my sophomore year, (because I did not attend in person my freshman year) I had gotten significantly better at managing my time. Throughout my years at Austin I joined many clubs and sports that made me feel welcome. I loved having something to pass time and my sponsors made it even more enjoyable. I just graduated from Austin in the class of 2024 and I am the second member of my family to have a high school degree. My older sister and I are the first of what will hopefully be a long line of Austin graduates, including my younger sister in a few years.
Noe Bueno
Stella Adams
Memorial Scholarship $1000

I introduce myself; I am Noe Raul Bueno. I was born in El Paso, Texas in August
2006. Despite being born here in El Paso, I was raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. At the age of 7 my parents made the decision to take me to El Paso for a better future. I studied in Ciudad Juarez but in the 4th grade I came here to Paul C. Moreno Elementary, then I went to Armendariz Middle School and finally I just graduated from my beloved Austin High School. These schools were part of my education. During this time my greatest difficulty was the language, which was English. Well, I didn't even know how to say hello in English and how to communicate with other people was difficult, but I decided to learn and in 7th grade I was finally able to master most of English, but since you never stop learning, I still have a lot to learn. I went through a lot of difficulties for my age starting high school, my father passed away. I was 14 years old, and it was something unexpected and of course painful. Not having my dad during this time was important because it strengthened me to be a man and have a little more independence. But believe me, growing up without a dad, without someone to see as your hero is something very ugly. I thank God for giving me strength and my family for not leaving me alone. After this, I forced myself as a responsible young man with respect and many values. Values that my family instilled in me and that are very valuable. I am a person who likes to learn and teach society. I help others when they need it. I am happy and enjoy life. I respect so that they respect me. This is a little of my story.
