Angelina Alegre
H.B. Fort Memorial Scholarship
Hello, my name is Angelina Alegre, however most people to call me Angie. I have been at Austin High School for all four years. I was involved in band and track for all four years, and I simply loved being a part of them. The college I am going to attend this fall is Texas Tech. I plan to major in Pre- Med biology with a minor in music.
I am the oldest of four girls, and will be the first of my family to go to college. My mother is a stay at home mom and my dad is the sole provider for us all. I have lived with my grandparents for most of my life, simply because I love them dearly and like to help them around the house and keep them company. However, it wasn’t until recently that my grandfather died, so I especially needed to keep my grandmother company and help her with everything. It has been tough, but our family is pulling through.
Most of my friends agree that I am a goofy yet bubbly girl, and my laugh is contagious. And let me not forget to mention, I get teased a lot because I am fairly short. But I love my friends, just as much as I adore my family.
I am very interested in a lot of things, so my hobbies vary. I like to read books, write poetry, sketch/draw, watch anime (Japanese cartoons), read manga (Japanese comics), run, play my many instruments, sing, and sleep.
My favorite subjects are science, music, and reading/English. I discovered I had a passion for these subjects throughout middle and high school. So at Texas Tech, I will be hopefully joining a mentorship program to keep me on track with my studies and the marching band to keep the music making alive!

I'm looking forward to going on adventures in the mountains and trails of Oregon and experiencing a new culture.

Natalia Aguilar
Stella Adams Memorial Scholarship
My name is Natalia Guadalupe Aguilar. I was born and raised in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. When I was eleven years old I moved to El Paso, Texas. I have three siblings, one older and two younger. I live with my two younger siblings and my mother as well with my cat, Fluffy. Some of my hobbies are running, reading, and watching horror films. Something that many people don’t know about me is I like to bake. Baking has been an interest of mine since I was little. My mother used to bake and I had become fascinated with it so I started doing it myself. Since I moved to El Paso, I haven’t been able to bake as much because of the heat. But whenever I get the chance I bake for birthdays or during cooler weather.
I will be attending Texas Tech University in the fall. I plan to major in Early Childhood Education so I can become a primary teacher. While I attend Texas Tech I will be participating in different activities while I am there such as the American Red Cross Student Chapter. I am looking forward to attending this university and I know that it will help prepare me for my career in teaching. Thank you for your time and support.

Hello, my name is Diveli Perez. I am 18 years old and I will be attending the University of Texas at El Paso. During my time there, I will be studying linguistics. Although I have a clear vision of what I want to do, or at least I think I do, I am completely clueless as to what my minor will be. I have a couple of options in mind. They include Women’s Studies, History, Philosophy, Education, Religious Studies, or a language of my liking.
I have several hobbies, but the most prominent one is styling hair. I love to style other people’s hair and seeing the many interesting things that can be done with these strands of dead skin. My senior year I joined the theater department, but I was too afraid to act and mess up on stage so I decided to help from backstage. My unofficial title within Austin’s Drama Co.’s technical crew was “Hair Lady.” During our final show, These Shining Lives, I was responsible for styling the cast’s hair in ways that represented the 1920’s and 30’s. The cast consisted of over twelve people. Now that high school is over, I plan to continue this passion of mine by pursing Community Theater, but that plan has been put off for the near future. Right now, I work full time at Cosimo’s Pizza at Cielo Vista Mall.

Hello, my name is Jonathan Ricardo Guerra, but most people just call me John. I am the oldest of three, and I will be the first one in my immediate family to attend a College or University. I live with my mother here in El Paso, Texas, while my father lives and works in Lovington, New Mexico. My father works for an oil company called Stone Oilfield Service as a truck driver. Because of our financial situation, he had to move to where there was work. This has been the situation since my freshman year, only seeing him every 2-3 weeks. He and my mother have broken their backs day and night to help put my siblings and I through school and life. My mother is a nursing assistant at Texas Tech United Health Center in El Paso. She`s been working this job since before I could remember. One of the doctors she works with has been kind and generous enough to help me and my mom over the years, from paying for my piano lessons, to helping me through college. I owe this man more than I can give.
I have attended Stephen F. Austin High School for the past 4 years. Throughout those 4 years, I was in a few extra-curricular activities like Marching Band, Concert Band, The Music Ensemble, The Austin Mariachi Band, and I helped paint a few murals on the top floor of Austin for an art class. I loved every minute of it all. The Mighty Panther Band of Austin High School has been like a family to me; we’ve laughed, cried, and shared each other’s smiles for four years. I don’t know what I’ve would have done without these people in my life. I am one of the founding members of the Austin Mariachi Band, which barely started this past fall. I hope that it will flourish and become the great group of musicians that will help bring Austin higher. I’ve also made a few great friends, some who I will always see as a family.
If you ask any of these close buddies about me and my personality, they will all tell you the same thing: I’m a really relaxed guy with many hobbies. I love to read books, comic books, Manga (Japanese comics), watch anime (Japanese animation shows), play my instrument, think about the “What-Ifs”, play Videogames, board games, Chess, and I have a Masters in Sleep and Dreaming (joke).
I will be attending Sul Ross State University (SRSU) on August 19th. I heard about Sul Ross, and I went on a campus tour, and fell in love with the small but great school. I find its isolation and seclusion relaxing and free. I plan to major in Music while attending.
This is me.
