Demian.jpeg

Hi, howdy? My name is Demian Macias, I was born here in el Paso but raised in cd. Juarez for the first 15 years of my life. I grew up on a Spanish speaking household where I never had to speak English, but either way I decided I would be cool if I learned to speak and read English, so I did. Since I grew up in Cd. Juarez, I went to school there until I graduated from “segundaria” which is almost the same as middle school the only difference is that it ends in the 9th grade, so I started in Austin as a Sophomore in the fall of 2019. Since it was my first time in an American school, I decided to take Dual Language classes because I was so scared of the idea of having to talk to classmates and teachers in English, but luckily, I got better with the time.
When I was a Junior, I got an email saying that I got inducted to the 2020-2021 National Honor Society, at first I didn’t know what it was, so I asked several teachers and they told me it was good news, so I started to get excited about it, but since it was during the middle of the pandemic, we didn’t do much, but during the ceremony, which was held online, I learned that seniors get special chords for it, and I got even more exited. Finally now that I am a senior, I feel really accomplished for what I have done during these past 3 years of my life. I participated in the 2021 Winter concert and in the 2022 Spring concert playing the drums for Guitar class. I also feel proud of myself for being part of the top 10% of the class of 2022 and being part of the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 NHS because not only I am getting a special chord, but I am also getting a white gown, which for me, is the best feeling I’ve
ever had because, man, white suits me better than golden.

Adrian2.jpeg

Hi, my name is Adrian Urbina and I am a graduate of Austin High School for 2022. I was born and raised here in El Paso and have lived here my entire life. My parents have been a key part of my success here at school and my dad was a big influence on me wanting to come to Austin as he graduated from the school nearly 30 years ago. During my time at Austin, I’ve been involved with many clubs and organizations such as orchestra, broadcast, and our Senior Senate. Being in all of these clubs, especially during my senior year, helped me come out of my shell and become a confident young man. Coming into Austin, I was scared to talk to pretty much anyone, but after four years, that has completely changed and I’m proud to say I’ve improved and grown as a person. I met so many people and made so many friends that I will never forget. I was also very thankful to be named the All-Austin Boy for 2021-2022 and was also named our school’s homecoming king. After graduation, I plan on attending Texas A&M University to study Sport Management. I want to eventually work for an NFL team (preferably the Dallas Cowboys) and be an executive of some sort. My high school experience here at Austin has been one to remember and one I will cherish for the rest of my life. I hope to continue making Austin High School proud as I venture off into the real world.

Antillo2.jpeg

My name is Abril Antillo. I was born in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. My parents made the decision to move to the United States when I was 9 and my brother was 2. This decision changed our lives forever, but at the end of the day it was the best decision of my life. This migration allowed me to meet the greatest people in the world and succeed the way I’ve been succeeding now. My parents have been my fuel to keep going; my motivation to live day by day. Thanks to them, I was able to graduate with a 4.16 GPA, top 10 of my graduating class and as the salutatorian. Austin taught me to be the giving person I am today. The leadership roles I took throughout my high school career allowed me to grow as a person overall. Being a math ambassador my freshman year, basketball manager from sophomore to senior year, leadership/ student council since sophomore year and student body president my senior year built me up. My future goal is to use these skills to further my education in NMSU and study marketing with a minor in business administration. With these added skills, I will be able to continue reaching my dreams of opening businesses across the country and worldwide later in life. In addition to this, I will donate my time and money to my community, specifically central El Paso and my alma mater because without the
assistance that this school gave me, I would not be who I am today.

My name is Evelyn Acosta, I was born in El Paso, Texas but lived in Cd. Juarez, Mexico for four
years before moving to El Paso, Texas. Moving to El Paso was a hard decision my parents had to
take because it meant leaving their whole life’s behind, but they also wanted to give me the
best life possible where I could have more opportunities. My parents have always been my
biggest inspiration and my plan has always been to make them proud by doing good in school,
being the first college graduate, and pursuing my dream career. I attended Beall Elementary for
half a year of kindergarten, then moved to Rusk Elementary, and went to middle school at
Armendariz. After middle school I attended Austin High school, where I took a part of different
organizations such as volleyball, NHS, leadership, student council and senior class president. My
sophomore and junior year I were chosen as the duchess for the homecoming court. I have also
been a part of New tech since my freshmen year because I wanted to pursue a career in law
enforcement, but I now plan on becoming a businesswoman. I am now graduating #3 in my
class, in the top 10%, and with a 4.15 GPA. I have also earned a total of 250 community service
hours within and outside of Austin high school. After graduating high school, I plan on attending
New Mexico State University where I plan to study Marketing. My plan after college is to get a
license as a realtor and open my own businesses later in life. My ultimate goal is to give back to
my community because my experiences have taught me that I wouldn’t be where I am without
the help of those around me. I am truly blessed for all the experiences presented to me and
everything Austin has taught me. Every single one of my teachers had a great impact in my life
and they helped lead me into the right path. Although I may be leaving for college, I am deeply
honored to be representing everything Austin is because it is a small but mighty campus.

My name is Alyssa Tellez and I’m from El Paso, Texas. I come from a family with two loving
parents and one younger brother. My hobbies are drawing and reading but I mostly read. My
favorite genre of books are fantasy books. I have two dogs, Alister and Lily. I love playing
sports, my favorite sport is football and I enjoy playing golf. I also love to hang out with my
friends whenever we have time off from school. My favorite place to go is Barnes & Noble
because I love books so much and I usually spend most of my allowance there and I get gift
cards as presents from there too. My top five favorite movies are Encanto, Aladdin (2019),
Zootopia, Black Widow (2021), and Cars 2. My top five favorite songs are Wave Your Flag by
Now United, Summer in the City by Now United, Reggaeton Lento by CNCO, and Starting Now
by Brandy.
Since I started high school, I knew I had to work hard in order prepare myself so I can make it
to graduation day. I took my schoolwork very seriously and if there wasn’t anything I didn’t
understand I asked questions and ask for help from my teacher. In school, I took parts in several
organizations which include golf, yearbook and newspaper and I made lots of memories and it
also taught me lots of things such as time-management, interacting with others and being
committed. I know these skills will be useful as well as other skills that I developed throughout
high school will help me throughout my college life and beyond.

Angel1.jpg

My name is Angel Caldera, and I was born in the Sun City El Paso where I have lived all
my life. I was originally raised in the Northeast but from 2010-2019 I moved to the notorious
well known “ghetto” Segundo Barrio. I have personally experienced and seen how easy it is to
give up, when there is a lack of opportunity. Although there were tough times in that
neighborhood and despite the rough ends, I learned life lessons and met people who will
forever be family to me.
Being a kid who was living in Segundo and who wanted to go to Austin High School was
a big transition. I remember the beginning of my freshman year I had to wake up at 6 am to be
able to catch the sun metro, to come to school. Nevertheless, it did not matter to me I was
proud to be attending Austin High School and I was so grateful to be part of the Sandra Day O'
Conor Law Enforcement Academy/ Panther New Tech. Thanks to this program I plan to further
my career in law enforcement. I am also honored to be the last class to be a part of the last
class graduating from the New Tech Program. The opportunity’s that were shown and given to
me by this school will always be memorable. I was involved in Football, JROTC, and the
managing of Austin library’s open mics.
The idea of going to college never truly crossed my mind I was very undecisive. In spite
of that, thanks to this scholarship I plan to further my academic studies at El Paso Community
College, in the trade of wielding. Apart from my family and my amazing teachers, I am thankful
for my father and grandmother who always pushed me to never give up on my dreams and my
brother who inspires me to study a trade to have more opportunities in life. Even if I had a
rough beginning, I am proud and grateful for the accomplishments I have today, and hope for
more to come!

Beltran2.jpeg

My name is Estephanie Beltran; I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, by immigrant parents
that came to the United States seeking a better life for my older brothers. My father worked
construction while my mother was a stay-at-home mom. It was a little difficult growing up; my
mother didn’t know how to drive, which meant that every morning we would have to wake up
a little earlier to have time to walk to school or catch the sun metro if we had a doctor’s
appointment and if we were lucky enough one of my mom’s friend would give us a ride back.
Furthermore, I was the only one who was born a citizen in my family, so growing up, my
brothers always told me that I should take every opportunity that came my way because they
couldn’t do the same. In elementary school, I had a little difficulty learning, so I ended up doing
tutoring, Saturday school, and summer school, which paid off because it helped my learning
style. In middle school, I would do great in school and would receive a’s and b’s for the most
part. My family has played a significant role in my life since they always pushed me to get
better grades. It has always been so important to me to make my family proud to show them
coming to the United States was worth leaving some things behind. I thank my parents for
opening countless opportunities for my brothers and I. Law enforcement has always caught my
eye, which is why I decided to join the NT academy to see if I want to pursue a career in it. I am
glad for joining the New Tech academy because it opened my eyes to all the professions in law
enforcement. I hope that in 10 years, I will be working for Customs and Border Protection after
transferring from Border Portal. I plan to attend UTEP, where I hope to get a degree in business,
where I intend to major in management and marketing.

Flores, David 2.jpeg

My biography begins with me entering Austin High School and being completely nervous.
However, those doubts were destroyed after finding my footing there. Listening to music is a
personal interest to me all the time, to always play sounds that my ears love. At 16, I took an
elective class of psychology which sparked a whole new interest in my mind. My goals after
high school graduation is to go to college out of El Paso and succeed as much as I can to a place
that will be entirely different to me. My career goals are after I've studied so much of the human
mentality is to become an essential worker as a therapist or a psychologist. To further
elaborate, for my education, I want to major in psychology and be able to study and
understand main parts of the mind. It's always been a wonder of mine to conquer the
inevitability of the human brain and try to acknowledge the interesting components
that control our actions every day. The lockdown from the virus was one of a tough time due
to having to be stuck inside my own home for days and not get out enough. It was having to
overcome that personal conflict by doing whatever I could to not fall deeper in the rabbit hole.
My father who passed away from the virus became the toughest reality I had to face and
overcome. After missing so much in almost 2 years, called for setbacks of my motivation and
hopes. Concurring through this spiral of depression was one of the biggest battles I’ve ever
faced. I knew that the type of unique opportunities I carry now and will receive in the future
leaves a more confident head on my shoulders. Even though time flies, I have a lot of it to waste
doing what I truly desire. Where I see myself in 5 years is in college, studying a major that finds
me happy with the direction it's taking. A comfortable mindset that I'm a little happier in, a
freedom that I've gotten use to that I still love it every day. A college that I enjoy so much I don't
have regrets about choosing it.

El Paso city in Texas has been the city that has seen me grow, mature, and overcome
myself. Since a little girl, I have always had the mindset of a warrior. In my elementary school
days, I remember I would always be open-minded about educational related subjects. Always
trying my best in every subject. Having excellent grades is something that I inculcated in myself
at a young age. My middle school days were always full of surprises and excitement as I learned
new things every single day. Now, as I am finishing my high school days, I can say that not too
much has changed in my persistent way of thinking. However, I could say that I am not the
same person as the one who enter high school. I am more mature and see new points of view
in life and understand how the real world works. My essence will always be the same. I will
always have the same desire of learning new things and having new goals. My new college days
are waiting for me, and I feel and know I am prepared for them. Accomplishing my new goals
after high school is what will keep me going forward. I am a seventeen-year-old teenage girl
that’s leaving high school with nine honor cords, top ten graduating in white, top two percent,
and with my license as a manicurist obtain in a high school. I understand now more than ever
that I can always achieve my goals as I keep working enough for them and be persistent.

Do you know what is a Traumatic Brain Injury? A Brain Injury might sound more familiar if I
say a Concussion or stroke. I have heard of a concussion and a stroke but never of a
Traumatic Brain Injury before my Brian Injury. A traumatic Brain Injury is what I suffered. I will
tell you more about my journey as a Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor
July 7, 2019, is the day I suffered this injury. I was a freshman in High School who
decided to join football. I decided to go with my mom to the gym to lift weights. I was lifting
different kinds of weights at different stations. If you knew me, I am a short boy who had no
muscle back then. All of a sudden, I started to feel bad, then it got worse over time. I wasn't
thinking that this was not serious, so I didn't tell anyone. As a result, I went to the restroom to
take a break so maybe I can feel better. I went into a stall and started sweating so much,
getting a Headache, weakness in my muscles, and to finish things up, I started to Throw up. I
needed some help from someone. There was somebody washing their hands so, I ended up
saying "Help" to him. He heard me and started talking to me. Once he knew I was on the
floor, he came into the stall with me and called a employee. To end this, I only remember up
until this point and then, I fell into my comma for about 1 month with a 2% survival. I woke up
around one month after.
In summary, head Injuries can be serious as I learned. I had a Traumatic Brain Injury
as confirmed by CT Scans showing that there were blood clots stuck in my Brain. I did spend
four months in the hospital due to this. To this day, I continue to receive different kinds of
therapy to improve the quality of my life. In conclusion, this is how I got my Traumatic Brain
Injury. Don't think that a hit to your head isn't serious because any kind of head injury can
lead to this.

My name is Joselyn Yvette Silva and I was born on the 25th of February, 2004 in El Paso, Tx. My parents
are Maria Del Carmen Gonzalez and Jose Gonzalez Jr. My mother was born in Ciudad Juarez and my
father in El Paso, Tx. My parents are at the age of 38 and 40.
My early childhood was a typical environment in the 2004’s. Most of my young years were spent with my
grandparents, my mother’s parents to be exact. Since both my parents were always working two different
schedules, there was no one to watch over me throughout the day and night. I grew up surrounded by a lot
of family, whether that’d be close or farther away.
I vaguely remember my childhood, the only core memories I would be able to recall would be spending
time with my grandparents and cousins. Fast forward eighteen years to today, I am now about to graduate
high school in two days. I am beyond excited and proud to see where my journey will continue.
Although there were many moments where I wanted to give in and give up, I did not. I still always gave it
my best efforts and tried to push through. This past year leading into this new year I was at my lowest
point, and I still am but I am fighting through it. I lost both my grandparents six months apart from each
other. You can only imagine the heartbreak and motivation there is left. Everything I continue to do is for
them.
I have yet to prepare for my future as a physician assistant and I can guarantee that all my hard work will
pay off for it at the end of the day. The reason I am going into the medical field would be for my
grandparents. They were and will always be the main reason as to why I chose to do something in this
field. It is not easy and it will be a rough path along the way, but I am determined to do everything I can
to help and care for others.
Once I finish attending my four years at UTEP, I plan to leave El Paso for a little. Preferably to San
Antonio, I will have to attend a PA school located outside of my home city, and the only other place I can
think of being where I feel is closest to home would be in San Antonio.
I will always give my best efforts in life, not only for myself but for my family and friends, for the people
I love. I will not disappoint, but I will make everyone proud.
